The proposed adult detention center expansion will be a detached building to serve the jail administrative staff. The space between the existing jail and the new building will be an outdoor courtyard for staff use.
The current administration space located in the existing jail when vacated will be used for programs/counseling for those incarcerated in the facility. The jail’s secure housing units are in close proximity to the existing administration area and therefore will provide inmate access within the secure perimeter. Inmates will be escorted to programs/counseling on an as-needed basis that is scheduled to maintain total separation of the male and female populations.
When inmates demonstrate that their behavior no long presents a threat of violence to staff or other inmates, jail administration may determine that they can be moved to the new “alternative to corrections/transitional living” facility (ACTLF), which should be ready for occupancy in the early part of 2013.
